More than 430 ponds for the various purposes have been built in Lithuania. The previous purpose – soil irrigation – is not topical any more. Consequently, small hydro-power plants are designed on energetically valuable ponds at present. In the future it is planed to build hydro-electric power plants on the biggest Lithuanian rivers – Neris and Nemunas.
